East Side Of Coniston

March 3, 2008

Went for a walk on the fells above Nibthwaite on the east side of Coniston Water yesterday. I don’t usually frequent these fells which border grizedale forest, but I was accompanying my wife who was working. Sue is UK conservation officer for the World Owl Trust based at Muncaster Castle, and was looking for a suitable site to put up a nesting box for Barn Owls.

On the way we passed a camping barn or bothy that I hadn’t noticed before – looks like a great place for a week or weekend get together.

After sussing ot the site, we carried on to the top of Selside before swinging back to the car. It’s great to see Coniston Water from a different perspective. Total number of other people that we met in two hours of walking = zero.
