Earthquake in Ulverston, Cumbria

The earth moved for inhabitants of the Lake District fringe market town of Ulverston in Cumbria today as an earthquake hit. Measuring in at 3.7 on the Richter scale, the tremor was severe enough to cause noise and shaking in buildings, but no damage is known to have been caused.

Rumours that the newly erected Laurel and Hardy statue had been toppled by the quake were dismissed as inaccurate. A quick visit to the site of the statue outside the Coronation Hall confirmed this as “the boys” were still upright.
