Late Breakfast At The Newfield Inn

April 24, 2008

Having been confined to indoor climbing for the last six months or so, yesterdays sunny weather was a joy to behold as it meant we could climb outside after work. We chose Seathwaite Buttress as our venue and arrived at the bottom of the crag around 6pm.

For the past few years, I’ve climbed “Thomas” at Wallowbarrow to get used to being back on rock, this year however, my first lead was Cereal Killer – a single pitch 27m MVS (4b). I found the traverse to the bottom of the arete to be a bit thin (not sure I was high enough), and for the final move, it would of helped if my left arm was a foot longer. Nice little climb for a starter though. Sue and keith followed me up without difficulty.

We followed Cereal Killer with Crackle – a 2 star Severe, stringing the last two pitches together, Sue and Keith led whilst I mainly just enjoyed the view  from the top of the first pitch.

Tony and Leslie arrived later and took a stroll up Pop (30m Diff)

Got bitten by one of the ferocious Duddon valley ants, and the midges had a bit of go at us too.

Came off the crag as darkness fell, and headed for a post climb pint at The Newfield Inn – perfect.
