High Dam – Finsthwaite

March 23, 2008

Thought we’d take advantage of the sunny lake district weather and head off for a bimble up to High Dam with some friends. We didn’t get there till around 3.30pm, and judging by the number of cars parked on the road, plenty of people had already had the same idea a little earlier in the day. We managed to park in the main car park though.

After a brief stroll up the hill we arrived at the dam, and the snow arrived from the skies, freaky weather this Easter.

It’s only a 15 minute walk around the dam, but in that time we met plenty of people who were walking their dogs, and/or their kids, plus a runner or two on their daily exercise routine.

Drove back through the village of Finsthwaite itself and past the Whitewater Hotel in the village of Backbarrow, alongside the tracks of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway, noticed a lot of new housing being built there
