Cartmel Races

June 3, 2008

Bank Holiday Monday saw me and the blonde tootle off to Cartmel Races in search of riches beyond our wildest imaginings (trust me they’re wild!). We were taking advantage of some corporate hostility so we were having lunch in “Chasers” which is in point of fact a tent, well alright a marquee (big tent).

After a snifter in the Cavendish Arms it was just a short walk to the course which is the beauty of Cartmel  as its so manageable. Didn’t need my mobility scooter! The sun was shining & it looked like most of Cumbria had figured it a good idea to turn up and fleece the bookies.

Lunch was excellent, a buffet affair for toffs & I piled my plate as high as decorum would allow and then it was time to pay off the mortgage.

Our friend is a bookie and we got a sure fire tip on race 3 which of course ended up still cantering long after the winner had crossed the line and the jockey was back in the weighing room. We finally won £9.00 on some unlikely nag and figured the real winners were Lord and Lady Cavendish.

feeling a bit peckish we pottered off to the Stagger Inn at Stainton for a nosebag!
